Wedding Day Tips from Your Videographer Who’s Seen It All!

Chelsey K. Films North Alabama Wedding Videographer Wedding Day Tips from your videographer who has seen it all

Hey friend! If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve got a wedding day on the horizon. After filming weddings for nearly a decade, I can confidently say I’ve seen it all—the magical, the hilarious, and the occasional “oops” moment. The good news? A little preparation can make your day smoother, more relaxed, and even more beautiful on film. So, here are some of my favorite tried-and-true tips to help your wedding day shine—straight from your videographer bestie.

1. Have Your Details Ready

Before things get rolling, gather your rings, invitation suite, vow books, jewelry, perfume, and any sentimental keepsakes into one spot. Not only does this make your morning way less stressful (no one’s running around hunting for grandma’s bracelet), but it also lets me capture those gorgeous flat lays you’ll love looking back on. Trust me—those little details tell part of your story.

2. Write Something Heartfelt

One of my favorite things to film is when couples exchange a letter, journal entry, or even a short love note. It doesn’t need to be Shakespeare—just a few lines from the heart. These moments create emotional, tear-jerking footage and double as keepsakes you’ll treasure forever. Imagine re-reading those words on your 25th anniversary.

3. Share Your Vision Early

I’m a big believer that your wedding film should feel like you. Whether that’s soft and romantic, upbeat and celebratory, or somewhere in between, telling me the songs, vibes, or even Pinterest inspiration you love gives me the chance to weave your personality into your film. Your vision helps me create a final product that feels deeply, unmistakably yours.

4. Don’t Skip Golden Hour

Listen, I get it—the schedule is full, your guests are waiting, and your feet might be begging for a break. But hear me out: slipping away for just 10–15 minutes during golden hour is pure magic. The lighting is dreamy, you’ll get a breather from the crowd, and the footage? These clips almost always end up being the heart of your film.

5. Consider Private Vows or a First Look

Some of the most emotional moments I’ve filmed are quiet, private exchanges between couples—reading vows with just the two of you (and me tucked in the corner with my camera). A first look or private vow exchange gives you the chance to slow down, breathe, and really connect before the whirlwind of the day. And yes, it makes for incredible footage.

6. Stay Fueled

This one seems simple, but it’s huge. Between nerves and a packed schedule, it’s easy to forget to eat or hydrate. But snacks and water are the secret weapons for keeping your energy high and your glow radiant all day long. (Pro tip: protein-packed bites like granola bars or trail mix are lifesavers.)

7. Plan “Just Us” Moments

Your wedding day will fly by—it’s like time speeds up the second you put that dress on. That’s why I always recommend carving out little pockets of time for just the two of you. Whether it’s a quick walk after the ceremony, a quiet toast together, or sneaking away to dance without an audience, these moments are the ones you’ll hold closest.

8. Trust Your Vendors

I’ll say it louder for the people in the back: trust your vendors. You’ve handpicked a dream team of professionals who live for this stuff. Our job is to handle the details, troubleshoot the hiccups, and keep things moving so you can be fully present. When you let go and trust us, you’ll not only feel more relaxed—you’ll look more relaxed, which makes your film even better.

At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t about the perfect timeline or flawless execution. It’s about celebrating your love. My job is to capture the real, raw, joy-filled story as it unfolds. So breathe, soak it all in, and let’s make some magic together.

With love,
